Welcome to Not Us
My name is Andreas and it was me who initially started work on this project in 2021. I was and am still living at an amazing place called Spelkollektivet during this development.
I've been making games for fun since Commodore 64 in the 1980s, but never thought it would lead anywhere serious — actually missing the whole indie game boom of the early 2000s while being fully occupied with a career in print media publishing.
Before arriving at Spelkollektivet in 2020, I experienced some kind of creative block and could no longer make games even for fun, which was very distressing. When work on Not Us started in 2021, I had decided that the metrics of success would be:
- get around creative block
- stay productive
- FINISH THE GAME
There was no thought to mass appeal, marketing, or even user friendliness . I'm worried that the game is too weird and maybe off-putting, but it's the one I know I can make.
Along the way a number of friends joined in to help, not really expecting anything in return (if the game would make any money they'd get a share ofc, but still...). The main benefit I think we all hope to actually gain is Experience.
I hope those of you willing to try out our demo will be patient with us as we are figuring out a way to both stay true to the original vision and to make it more approachable and easy to learn!
