New levels - Sunlens


Time for the third part of our New Levels series of devlogs: Sunlens.

I've written more about the purpose and structure of the levels in the River post, if you'd like a refresher first.

Now, let's zoom in on the "Sunlens Level" and see some hot stuff!


While Thunderstorm, the last level we looked at, is themed wind/clouds/lightning/thunder/electricity, Sunlens is arid/heat/light.

Back in the days when humans held dominion over Magic, these lands were made prosperous by a huge lightbending energy system in the sky. This magical invention scattered the overpowering sunlight and turned the area from a merciless oven into an impressive light show.

In the days of the Great Magic Cataclysm, the system mutated and changed until it no longer scattered the light from the sun. It now focuses it on these lands like a giant lens instead, turning them into an outright desert.
